Two Sides To Every Story

* * *

ASMODEUS WAS PISSED off.

While he could appreciate Seralynn’s steadfast willfulness as one of the more charming aspects of her personality, he was furious that she slipped away in the dead of night—again—given how well it worked out the first time. Although she was well-versed in the ways of witherwood, at the very least, he explicitly advised that she needed rest—and plenty of it—before resuming the search for her sister.

He wondered why that damned woman couldn’t listen.

Still, he had the advantage of knowing exactly where she was headed, which meant that catching up to her would probably be easy enough.

Setting off along the same path Seralynn began traveling several hours before, his pace remained one of expediency and determination.

Until the moment the breath wrestled from his lungs.

A rush of power swept every inch of his body, rendering him immobile as the world around him turned, blissfully unaware of the assault on his every sense.

His head vibrated with an insistent, dizzying hum that grew more clamorous with each passing second until it became the only sound in existence. Asmodeus covered his ears and grimaced, gnashing his teeth as he rode wave upon wave of deafening pain for several minutes.

He sank to his knees, doubling over as he struggled not to scream. His blood boiled and every inch of his skin tingled with violent electricity that threatened to turn him to ash.

Just when he believed he could endure no more, the onslaught mercifully receded as quickly as it had overtaken him and only one sensation remained.

It coursed through his veins and turned them into liquid fire. Tears pricked the corners of his eyes and he stifled a wail when he realized what it meant.

Sarah.

He could feel Sarah.
